whats the difference between Xenon and H4 lights?
i've been wondering for a while now which one would be better to put onto my jeep...and no one really has givin me a diffinate answer so some help from you guys would be awesome
The other answers are confusing xenon lights with HID lights.
Xenon is an inert gas that can be used in any headlamp bulb H4, H7, H1 etc.
Xenon gas allows the bulb filament to run hotter than standard headlamp bulbs producing more light.
The light is not necessarily bluer. It depends what other gases are mixed with the xenon, what metals the lamp filament is made of and whether the glass used is tinted or coloured.
I use PIAA Extreme White H4 bulbs in the headlamps on TJ Wrangler. They only consume the standard 55/60 Watt power as a standard bulb, but are so much brighter that a standard bulb would have to consume 120/130 Watts to be as bright.
The glass of the bulb has a slight blue tint, but due to the gases and metals used in the bulb, the light produced is pure white without even a hint of blue.
In the UK we have Hella H4 lamp units fitted as standard rather than the sealed beam lamps fitted in the US but a lot of people in the US fit H4 lamp units for better light. Fatboy bulbs are a popular replacement but they use more power and will put more strain upon the electrical system.
